What is the TSO?
The Tactical Situation Object (TSO) is a proposed standard for exchanging
information during disaster and emergency management. Thus, a TSO can describes all sort of events, the resources engaged in the operation, and the tasks in progress.
The data inside the TSO are in code format that is both computer and human readable and that can be exchanged between independent systems.
Due to this interoperability, these TSO can be transmitted and displayed in the recipient's preferred format, language or platform.
The first version of the TSO has been defined in the frame of the European Union project OASIS (Open Advanced System for dISaster & emergency management); then the next versions have been discussed and set up in the CEN Workshop (the 'Information System for Disaster and Emergency Management' workshop).
To get a better understanding of the TSO, we recommend:
- to have a look at the 'System outline' section of the OASIS interactive presentation that introduces the need of the TSO;
- to read the TSO presentation
.
TSO evaluation
The TSO has been tested with several applications developped by OASIS partners during trials throughout Europe (please refer to the 'Trials' section of the OASIS interactive presentation).
TSO Editor
Recently, the TSO Editor, an open source web based application for creating, displaying and editing TSOs has been made available to everyone. We invite you to test it and give us your feedback.
Using the TSO
The outputs from the workshop WS/ISDEM 'Information System for Disaster and Emergency Management' on Shared situation awareness are:
- Part 1: Message structure
- Part 2: Codes for the message structure (TSO Dictionary)
Remarks, proposal and feedbacks
- If you have any questions about the TSO message structure, please send us an email.
